I'm under the impression most dead are on the decks, where the slaughtering happens, or caught by surprise elsewhere, or simply surrendered first unwilling to the seas.
Miss Hermione, I've been aware that the dead lingered with those of you who did such as happened at the volcano, though who had done so, I wasn't certain.
I can make you a talisman necklace to keep their voices down, so they're not as present for you. I've had to do something similar for a good friend before, and there's paper enough I can scrounge up here. Should even be able to get it to you in the brig, as needed, though I can't imagine the stench of the place is making any of you happy down there.

I have found it quieter down here, but it's not as though I've been defying the sailors on purpose to be thrown in the brig. They just have the worst manners.
Nevertheless, it's probably high time I stop using this as an excuse to not participate in whatever action is going on on deck, so I was reaching out because I hoped you'd have advice.
The talisman, would it be a permanent feature or need renewing? Xue Yang made one, while we were in the House of Ravens at night, and it kept the ghosts quiet. If it will keep these silent, I'll appreciate the help, and will find a way to repay you the favour.
Permanent as long as you continue wearing it. You can take it off freely, but it's not effective when not in contact with you. If it's specifically what he made or not I hesitate to say.
Events on deck have been evolving up until now, where we're paused at sea. Very haunted, which isn't surprising, but you'll notice the difference!
I bet he's complaining loudly, I see why you're aiming to be free now. I'll get working on that necklace for you. Won't be a fashion statement, but it will help, and I think we can agree sometimes sacrifices of accessories must be made.
HE'S your brother?? You're nothing alike. And he's not complaining so much, it's fairly true that the brig is not comfortable, but he thinks I'm trying to
( he blinks at this, then simply bursts out laughing. ah, what a blessed moment. )
For your sake, and Lan Zhan's, that's better all around, but I hardly suspected you of it. If anything, I'm fairly sure he wants to adopt you, but why in the world does my brother think you're setting yourself up to court my husband?
I don't know! Maybe he's not used to the idea of someone jumping to defend someone's honour without a hidden meaning.
All I did was point out the only one who was being obsessive over Lan Wangji's aspect during that accidental transmission in Ke-Waicai was him, and suddenly I get called a 'side piece'.
I'm not so certain, he's a man to defend those he cares for, but ah... it's a complicated relationship that he and Lan Zhan share, and they're both equally tense with the realisation of it.
( watch him gloss by this saying that and that alone. Nothing To Dive Into There, Nope, Not At All. The two most important living adult men Wei Wuxian claims as family now are in fact totally not at odds because of him, not at all. Not. At. All.
If there was a way to rectify that with any efforts on his part, he would run himself ragged trying, but the best he manages is to sooth some rough edges here and there, and fail more often than succeed. )
Which accidental transmission was that, anyhow?
( meet also: Wei Wuxian's memory. a formidable beast, that allows most things to slip past if they're not part of what he's puzzling through in life, or deeply important to those he cares for. )
Lan Zhan's favourite people tend to confuse and frustrate him, it's good for him! Trust me in this, Miss Hermione. He cares, or he'd be utterly uninvolved, on any level.
So I've noticed in the long run, but I'm not keen to be fodder for that tension, for either side...
[Meanwhile, she remembers which one that was; memory is one of her skill, don't you know?
Denial is the other. She likes how that concept makes her feel - the idea that someone as competent as Lan Wangji could be invested in her, even if her own relationship with her parents was destroyed by her own choices, but she will not address this. Just keep it, personal and precious.]
No, you shouldn't be. Unless you choose to become as family, you shouldn't be caught in the midst of their battles, ah?
( unless, and until. choices are things people make, and he wasn't jesting, not about his husband's tendency toward caring without concrete ways to show what matters. )
Fighting ghosts and spirits and things better and worse is a main portion of his training and life achievements! Jiang Cheng thought that was noteworthy?
My dear miss Hermione, apologies are unnecessary, unless you wish to extend one to him. In turn, I'm sorry that his tongue has run ahead of his intentions. He's a good man. He's terrible at saying anything easily or honestly when it comes to himself.
