I know you've been with the group of outside travellers for a very long time, and that we are told we can leave only through the beacons but...it has been a while since I last heard from someone and you're friends with her I know and I am wondering if it is possible that she may have found a way to leave without the group and how would we know and oh this message ended up long. Sorry.

Miss Hermione, is this about Miss Lily?

In each case where I've known the person who has arrived and then parted from our company, I've seen no indication of their being killed here, or taken prisoner in a lasting way. I don't believe we have confirmed answers, but I suspect while the gates allow us to return to our homes by choice, even the failure with the first gate's activation indicates that whatever pulled us here may send us back as a... rebound? That'll do for a word.

I've not heard from her in days and haven't seen her around the village, and I was worried that - but sending messages to her amulet won't work, it's as if she were gone.

Thank you for sharing this. I have noticed people simply disappearing from the group from time to time but I never thought it would happen with Lily.

You're welcome for news that none of us enjoy. I've witnessed it... for a year at this point, and it's rare for me to say there's any indication of whom it might strike. Just that it does not in most any case I've touched upon lead to indicate that the Merchant's fears have been realised.

Following the way the gate opening tried and failed while we exited Taravast, I suspect that it's a deliberate, chosen solution that's evading us. Not one that strikes unawares.

In summary, you're exactly right. And in some cases, people return. Not necessarily remembering being with us here before, but they return.

Appreciating the people you encounter along your journeys while they share the same road is all the more important when you know the kinds of separations due come the end.

How do you cope?

I've lost much, and frequently, in my life. I move forward, I pay respect to the memories of those I've cared for and lost, and I take steps to ensure those I care for now are not lost to my negligence, where my care could save them, and to acknowledge when it is something beyond my control.

Nothing in it is easy. But having known them, having cared for them, leaves me better enriched than their loss leaves me hollowed.

I don't mind in the slightest, just advise you remember what it took me years to truly learn. You may not be surrounded by those of your home here, but you aren't alone. Rely on the connections you make. Bonds will stand stronger than one person, solitary, whatever and however strong that person may be.

I agree with you on that - you won't have to struggle to convince me. I'm not a very good lone wolf kind of person, not anymore anyway.
